Acai Berry and Colon Cleansing
66Acai Berries are a small purple fruit from Brazil that have made a big splash in nutritional news lately because the berries are something of a superfood. Containing lots of fiber, antioxidants and those healthy omega fatty acids that we all need, the acai berry packs a punch.
Acai berry supplements are probably most popular at the moment because they are believed to be helpful with weight loss. But for the very same reason it is popular with dieters, it can be helpful as a colon cleanser.
Because the acai berry contains a lot of fiber, it makes an idea colon cleanse supplement. But fiber isn't the only reason it's a good idea to add acai berry -- in the form of juice or a supplement -- to your colon cleansing diet.
Losing Weight with a Colon Cleanse
Most of us who do colon cleanses also would like to lose a little weight as well and acai berry can help provide a boost to weight loss by increasing your metabolism and increasing fat oxidation. And while you are doing the acai berry colon cleanse, your energy should start to increase and you'll have less fatigue. So as you can see there are lots of good reasons to use acai berry in your colon cleanse.
You can also improve your colon cleansing by making your own colon cleanse recipe, so check my homemade colon cleanse hub for more info on how to do that.
Acai berries and inflammation
One reason that lots of folks decide that a colon cleanse is in order is because of some kind of gastric distress -- such as irritable bowel syndrome -- or chronic inflammation.
This is where the acai berry becomes quite useful as the berries contain high levels of anthocyanins. Anthocyanins, known as a flavonoid, are what gives the berries (and other fruits) their color and this flavonoid appears to have anti-inflammatory properties that can be quite helpful in reducing inflammation. This could certainly be particularly beneficial for anyone doing a colon cleanse to help with IBS or colitis.
How to take Acai Berry
Unfortunately, unless you live in Brazil, you won't have access to the pure, fresh fruit. Acai berries are too delicate for extensive transport. So the best way to take them is as a juice, a powder which can be added to drinks, or in capsule form.
Since most of the Acai juices are actually juice cocktails -- Acai berry with some other form of juice such as apple juice, or rasberry juice, I think it is better to just take a pure acai berry supplement. I prefer to avoid all of the sugar in those juices as sugar is going to slow down any kind of colon cleanse that you might do.
But it is totally up to you which way you want to do it. I think the best bet is probably an Acai berry supplement during your colon cleanse and then you can move to some of the different Acai juices and drinks after your cleanse is finished.
